Dear Future Me, We did it!

recording One of the hardest things to overcome in any journey are the lows that follow any high.  At some point I hear all of my clients tell me they’ve hit slump and don’t know how to move forward.  My first response?  Congrats, Folks.  That means whatever you’re doing is working. Burn out is normal, it’s breaking out that can be difficult.

My goal is to help my clients get ahead of that slump by making a plan.  This begins by taking a pro-active approach to success. This means being able to remember what the high looks like, even in the middle of a slump.

Here’s my tip for creating a solid de-slumping plan: you’re already doing it.

Remember that big sale you landed a few days ago?  How about that new deal you made this morning?  Do you remember what that feels like?  That rush, that gut-tumbling, air clenching excitement is your anti-slump, and there’s a way to connect with that even on your lowest day.

Record yourself during a career high point.  Give your feelings voice and record yourself speaking your success. Get down and dirty, spilling all the details of what you did, how you did it, the formula or strategies you used, and the people or processes you aligned with. Put it into words then LISTEN to your own excitement and energy when you absolutely KNEW that you were getting it right.

My challenge to you: Take ten minutes of your day and give this a try. I recommend downloading AudioNote on your iPad or smart phone as your recording tool.

Performance is a beautiful thing. You deserve to get out of the slump and back into the game. Others are waiting on you. Start now.

As always, your input matters so please share with me in the comments section below.
