Fear; it can limit or it can launch
I think it’s important to mention fear because it has the potential to do two things to your success: it can limit or it can launch.
One of the greatest compliments I have been given was being described as “fearless.” The best part about fearlessness is that it’s a choice. I choose to take risks in my personal and professional life every day because it feels good to me. Those daily choices (that can seem terrifying at times) build on one another, creating a foundation of courage and confidence that has taken me further than I thought possible. Simply put, my choices and my experiences build me up and make me fearless.
Think about the firemen, policemen, and military of your community. Those people are strong, brave, and courageous, but they weren’t born heroes. They make a daily choice to protect their community, their loved ones, and their country. Training and experience allow them to continually face danger and take risks because it’s what they love to do. They have a passion for helping and protecting others. The same principles of facing fear and making choices can be applied to your business.
When facing fear, ask yourself: What’s the worst thing that can happen?
It’s important to mention that not every risk I have taken has worked out. Everyone makes mistakes; things fall through, scratches and dents happen. Choosing to pick myself up and learn from every situation I am faced with has been a game changer for me.
Overcoming the fear of rejection is a big part of getting to the next level. The best part about taking a risk and receiving a NO is that it doesn’t even require a Band-Aid. The more you ask for business, the more NO’s you receive, the more you experience it, you are no longer afraid of doing it. You build your own foundational courage. You become fearless.
I challenge you this week to not let fear stop you from achieving the things you want. If you do feel a rush of fear come over you, simply stop yourself and ask: What am I afraid of?
Dig until you find real answers. Be honest with yourself, and remember that all foundations are laid one brick at a time. I believe in you!
