The One Bad Habit That Is Costing You Money

banner2-minHave you ever felt like there aren’t enough hours in the day? My clients frequently are frustrated about not having enough time to get things done. One of the benefits of setting your own goals is the ability to decide how and when you get things done. Unfortunately, with that ability comes the difficult task of time management and prioritizing. In order to make it a little easier, I’ve developed a strategy that breaks down the day into three main components: growing, serving, and following up. I’ve found that when we spend 30 percent of our day on growth, 60 percent on serving, and 10 percent of the day on following up with clients, productivity and results increase.

This is the 30.60.10 Formula and it has proven itself time and time again in a wide variety of professions. The reason this formula is so universal, is that it really digs down to the core purpose of why we do what we do. In order to be successful, we must continue growing, doing what we love (serving in our chosen field), and following up with those we serve.

Out of these three core components, the most common struggle is following up with clients. There’s something about making that phone call or sending an email that seem chore-like, and often get pushed to the side for more “exciting” tasks.

But the truth is, the follow up is the foundation of your future business.

What does ten percent of follow up per day look like? It’s an hour. An hour to make a phone call to the client your met with, or shoot an email to the fellow business person you met at that networking event.

I challenge you this week to devote one hour of your workday to following up with your clients, and see what a difference it makes for your business. If you’re having trouble getting started, make a list of ten actions you can take to follow up, then edit the list as you go. Take it one step further and write down the results of your follow-ups so you have tangible proof of your success.
