Wintertime Success Strategies…
If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I had a 50-pound weight loss this past year. I actually reached my weight loss goal in September so it was really important to me to be able to sustain this loss during the winter months when I was not going to be as active as I had been all summer long. I knew that it would be important to utilize my treadmill for exercise, even though it had been easy during the summer to walk outside and on the golf course with our son. I approached the creation of winter strategies the same way I do with my business and how I coach my clients. I knew that I needed to stop and reflect on what I did in order to successfully get through a challenging winter. I began by setting myself up with some visual reminders of how to overcome my desire to eat more than I should.
I placed this ‘visual’ on our fridge to challenge me to THINK before I grabbed something to eat. Part of any weight loss journey is learning about yourself and how to overcome eating more than necessary. Implementing this simple strategy made me ask myself “am I truly hungry and do I need food for fuel” OR “am I just bored, frustrated, emotional, stressed” and simply grabbing something to pacify me.
The other VERY successful strategy was to sit with myself and make a list of all the things I did to maintain during the hard winter months. That list included things like; eating yummy clementine’s after a meal. The citrus flavor tempers your desire to want to eat more food. Another thing was to remind myself that I ate turkey jerky as a meal replacement when I was traveling. It was great protein, packed and traveled well and was really satisfying (it takes a long time to eat too).
Doing this has created my ‘go to guide’ as the fall of 2015 approaches. It shows me that if I did it once, I can surely do it again. Compounded over time, strategies become mastery.
What visual do you need to create to stay on task? What will your list look like? What are the benefits to you by creating them?
When the fall or winter months approach you will be grateful that you’ve equipped yourself with your own ‘go-to guide’. If you would like to further discuss your answers to these questions, please feel free to contact me.
