You are your own competition

Success is about mastery. It’s about doing what you do the best way you know how to do it, and helping other people in the process. I have a handful of clients who have already reached that level of mastery in their business and while they face many similar problems as those who are still climbing the ladder, they also face a different challenge.
I’ve sat across from high-level executives and asked a simple question: Now what? My master clients have breathed the air at the top of the ladder and while it can be exhilarating way up in the clouds, there isn’t much oxygen up there.
That’s why when I’m asked that simple question my response is this: You’re good. You’re really good. You can do better.
A simple way to get back your personal drive is to tell yourself there is someone out there that is doing it ten times better than you are.
It’s true, you are your own competition, but if you challenge yourself by remembering you are NOT the first or last person succeed in your field, this could motivate you to regain the momentum you had when first building your business.
It’s easy to be complacent and to stop stretching and challenging yourself. If you find yourself in this place, lean in and look at ways to grow. Return to those methods and actions that worked when building your client-base or establishing your work routine. It’s important to understand that success is an agile thing, and can change as you change. Once you’ve achieved a certain level of success, be sure to re-evaluate and pinpoint what the “new success” looks like to you and your business.
Now how do you feel about getting motivated to accomplish something?
How do you feel about yourself?
You’re doing more than you realize. No matter where you are on the success ladder, the ultimate goal is not do things better than anyone else, but to do what works best for you and your clients.
